The last part of Week One’s homework assignment for Photo 101 was to shoot a Day in the Life series about anything. I was foiled (again) by the lack of small living things in my care (read: no pets, no kids), so I needed to think a little outside the box on my main subject. After a few suggestions offered by my husband (day in the life of a bottle of wine, anyone?), I eventually settled on a little blue owl figurine that lives around my desk at home.
Even owls need a little boost in the morning sometimes.

Eh, I tried to “tell a story” with the series, but I still don’t feel very creative. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to photograph around the house when it’s too cold to go outside?
Pretty in Prose 
In January, we were in such a cold snap here, it was not an enjoyable prospect to venture outside. I like winter! But -40C is not ideal out-in-nature weather, at least not for me. 😉 I’m in the process of completing a 52 Project, so it was tough. I did still bring my camera wherever I went and as such was able to get some nice shot despite the cold by simply watching the light around me while I drove the kids to school or the dog to the groomers, but I also started practicing close up photography and took pictures of flowers, plants, nuts, raisins. I really like your series of pictures of Owl. It reminds me of toy photography which I find so adorable but can never get to look quite right. I also like the idea of a day in the life of a bottle of wine. 😀
I’m definitely going to try bringing my camera more places as it warms up and I get out of the house more. The cold weather’s made me more of a hermit beyond going to work (no cameras allowed there). I may have to try a Project 52 after I finish this class. It sounds much more manageable than a 365!

Megan, thanks for visiting my blog. Good for you, learning to use your camera. It’s been a huge blessing in my life and a life skill I think many more people should have (especially useful once you have children!). I only wish I had learned sooner. Keep working at it. There is so much to learn. The closet and hiking shots are my favorite. 🙂
