Snow After Dark

I took these images two weeks ago when we were hit by two snow storms in the same 24 hour period.  Fun!  Not really.  I’m not a big fan of snow (understatement of the year) unless it gets me off work.  While I did indeed get my first real snow day in years, I’ve had enough of snow for this season.  Not to mention that we were stuck at home for two days.  You can see the condition of my street in my Photo 101 composition post.  Sure there was a path of sorts, but what you can’t see is the nearly two feet of snow between my little car and the tracks.  Wasn’t gonna happen.

But even so, I couldn’t help but pull out my camera as the second round came late at night.  They are far from perfect.  I think I took these photos around 11pm so the ISO is cranked up and the shutter speed is too slow and I was shooting through a window pane, but I still wanted to capture how still and isolated everything looked in my back yard that night before the sun came up and various creatures started tracking through it.  Even with the noise and camera shake, I’m very happy with how these photos turned out!

I also played around a bit with shutter speed like I did here to capture the falling snow.

And with that I declare myself absolutely done with winter.  Let’s hope Mother Nature cooperates.

Photo 101 by Nicole’s Classes: Composition

Composition was a big focus of Photo 101 last week, and it’s definitely something I continue to work on to elevate my photos from looking like basic snapshots.  Below are a few shots I submitted as part of my homework and the techniques I was attempting to use.
